Lending Collection

The Lending Collection of Rajarata University Library is a vast and diverse collection of books and other resources that students and faculty members can borrow for their academic and research needs.The collection comprises various subjects, including science, technology, engineering, agriculture, social sciences, humanities, and management. The library has an extensive collection of reference materials, textbooks, and audio-visual materials to support the academic curriculum.

Students and faculty members can access the lending collection by registering for library membership. The membership is open to all students, faculty members, and staff of the university. Once registered, members can borrow books for a specified period, which can be renewed if necessary.

The library has an online catalogue system, which allows users to search and locate the materials they need quickly. Additionally, the library has dedicated staff who assist users in locating resources and providing guidance on the proper use of library materials.

The lending collection of Rajarata University Library is a valuable resource that supports the academic and research needs of the university community. It is continuously updated and expanded to ensure that it meets the needs of the users and keeps up with the latest developments in various fields of study.

Special Collection

The Special Collection at Rajarata University Library is a unique and invaluable repository of resources. It includes rare books, manuscripts, archival materials, and other special items.

These extraordinary books, carefully preserved and curated. Therefore, those books cannot be borrowed.Users are welcome to visit the collection and immerse themselves in the wealth of knowledge within its pages. The Special Collection offers a remarkable opportunity for students, faculty, and researchers to engage directly with these remarkable texts, gaining firsthand access to historical perspectives and deepening their understanding of our heritage. It stands as a testament to our dedication to preserving and sharing knowledge for generations to come.

Sri Lanka Collection

The Sri Lanka Collection at Rajarata University Library is a meticulously curated section that gathers and organizes all publications related to Sri Lanka and its associated disciplines. This special collection encompasses a wide range of books focusing on subjects of significance to Sri Lanka. It holds a wealth of valuable resources authored by Sri Lankan writers or addressing topics directly relevant to the country.

The Sri Lanka Collection is an invaluable reference for researchers, scholars, and students seeking in-depth knowledge about Sri Lanka’s history, culture, literature, and socio-political landscape.

While the collection cannot be borrowed, it is available for on-site reference, ensuring that individuals can explore and draw insights from this rich repository of Sri Lankan-focused literature. Books can be identified from the below label which is on the spine of the book.

Quick Reference Collection

Rajarata University Library houses a well-organized Quick Reference Collection, prominently labeled with a QRC spine label. This collection is designed to provide quick access to essential reference materials and important textbooks. It serves as a comprehensive resource for students, researchers, and faculty members who require immediate information or concise overviews on specific topics.

The Quick Reference Collection is specifically tailored for quick consultation and photocopying purposes. Users can conveniently locate the relevant books and utilize them for making necessary photocopies of the required content. This collection plays a vital role in supporting efficient research and academic endeavors by offering readily available reference materials within the library premises.

Permanent Reference Collection

The Rajarata University Library maintains a permanent reference collection consisting of valuable resources that are essential for research, study, and general reference purposes. This collection comprises various types of materials that are not available for loan but are readily accessible to library users within the premises.

These materials are clearly labeled as “PR” and are intended solely for use within the library.

Personal collection

The Main Library of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka proudly houses a remarkable collection of Personal Collections that have been generously donated over the years. These valuable collections, carefully preserved and maintained, contribute to the library’s diverse holdings.

    2. Dr. Wilbet Goonaratne Collection
    3. Advocate General Mr. Rambanda Seneviratne Collection

Thesis Collection

Theses are available in the Permanent Reference Section and students and staff members refer to the available thesis by accessing this section in the collection. The preface of the thesis is available in the University Institutional Repository. Users can search for the available thesis and then they can access the hard copy in this section. Relevant Master degree thesis, Master of Philosophy degree thesis and Doctor of Philosophy thesis are available.

Periodical Collection

The Rajarata University Library maintains a comprehensive periodical collection that serves as a valuable resource for students and staff researchers. This collection comprises a wide range of periodical publications, including academic journals, magazines, newspapers, and other serial publications.

The periodical collection at the Rajarata University Library covers various disciplines, including the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Management and Professional fields. It includes both print and electronic formats, providing users with diverse options for accessing current and archived content.

The periodicals collection is regularly updated to include the latest editions of journals and publications relevant to the academic programs offered at the Rajarata University. Library users have access to recent issues, as well as archived content, depending on the specific subscription agreements and licensing agreements in place.

Furthermore, the library staff ensures proper cataloging, indexing, and shelving of the periodicals collection, making it easier for users to locate and retrieve specific publications.

Newspaper Collection

Rajarata University Library takes pride in its comprehensive Newspaper Collection, which serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students and staff members.

The Newspaper Collection offers a wealth of information, covering various topics such as Current Events, Politics, Culture, Business, and more. It provides a window into the past and present, enabling users to explore and analyze historical events, societal trends, and evolving perspectives. Whether it’s for academic research, current affairs analysis, or general knowledge enrichment, the Newspaper Collection at Rajarata University Library offers a rich and dynamic source of information that enhances the learning and research experience of the university community.

This collection houses a diverse range of newspapers, including Sinhala, English and Tamil.
