With the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata university of Sri Lanka in 2001 at the Puliyankulama premises, the English Language Teaching Unit was, too, established to offer a short intensive course of English for the new entrants and it was named as the Department of English Language Teaching after the mother unit at Mihintale was turned into a department in 2018. Currently, three instructors work in the Intensive English Programme, ongoing programme and Remedial English Programme and when the need arises, more instructors are called upon from the Department of English Language Teaching at Mihintale.
The English Language laboratory, which comprises computers and other audio video equipment, was opened in January 2007 and students are free to use the facilities for self-study to uplift their knowledge of English.
The staff of the Department of English Language Teaching is always at hand to support the undergraduates to enhance their knowledge of English.
