Step 1 University at which the student is registered will call for applications for university bursaries. Step 2 Needy students should make an application to the Student Welfare Branch of the university. Step 3 The university will select students for bursaries according to criteria approved by the UGC. All information regarding University Bursaries can be obtained from the university to which the student is attached to. |
Note:
A selected student maybe eligible to receive an amount between Rs 1500 – Rs 2500 per month (*10 installments per year) under this scheme, depending on the student’s family’s income.
Given below are the University Grants Commission revised criteria for the parental income ceiling applicable in the selection of students eligible for bursaries.
Parental Income Ceiling
Parental annual income should be equal to or less than Rs. 300,000/-
The following concessions to be added to the Income Ceilings specified above.
(a) Rs. 24,000/- concession per annum per school going sister/brother who is 18 years or under, up to a maximum of three children.
(b) Rs. 36,000/- concession per annum per sister/brother following a course in a University but not in receipt of a Mahapola scholarship or a Bursary. The marking scheme prescribed for the annual parental income of students eligible to receive financial assistance:
