On July 24, 2024, Prof. Bijesh Maharjan, an esteemed expert in Soil and Water Sciences from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, visited Rajarata University of Sri Lanka to initiate collaborative efforts between the two institutions. Facilitated by Prof. Manjula P.S. Magamage from Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, who played a crucial role in bridging this collaboration, Prof. Maharjan engaged in productive discussions with Vice Chancellor Prof. (Mrs.) G.A.S. Ginigaddara, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. G.V.T.V. Weerasooriya, Dr. Chinthaka Karalliyadda, Director of International Relations, and other faculty coordinators.
The discussions centered on developing joint research projects, facilitating faculty and student exchanges, and establishing training programs. Prof. Maharjan also delivered an insightful lecture on soil health in dry lands in the USA at the Faculty of Agriculture, aiming to inspire the academic community and students at Rajarata University to explore research and study opportunities in the USA.
This visit is anticipated to significantly enhance the academic and research capabilities of both Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership.
